Just potted this about 2 weeks ago using a 20 inch container and cactus potting soil. A week after potting I feed it citrus food and have been watering it about once a week. It now has yellow leaves, some of which are falling off. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do??? I also forgot to mention that some of the new buds were turning black???
How long ago did you get this tree? If it was a new acquisition, it may still be adjusting to its new location, the mineral and chemical content of your water may be different from what it is used to, ect. If you live in a humid climate, your plants will need less water because they are getting more from the air and less is evaporating from their leaves due to the limits on how much water air can hold. For now you might want to get a squirt bottle and go easy on the watering. You do not actually want to water until it is dry to the first knuckle on your finger when you poke it into the dirt and you want to drain any excess water out of the tray when the pot is done dripping. That being said, most citrus love to be misted with some water. Also you can pinch off the blackened areas where the new growth was supposed to come in. It will grow more elsewhere or in the same spot and it will prevent those areas from becoming a problem. The last thing that may or may not help is that you could remove the small fruits from the tree to allow it to use its resources on root and leaf production rather than on the fruit. Most trees recover better from changes and damage when they don't have any fruit on them. Hopefully someone with more experience with lemons at the same level of maturity as your plant will come post for you and know exactly what the problem is and how to fix it! I can only suggest what works in the laundry room citrus nursery when something starts going wrong. Let us know what's going on with it and what you decide to do!
