I've kind of avoided putting names to my bromeliads and haven't looked into them too much. Most were pups that came home with me while splitting them up at work :} I have managed with most but would like a few affirmatives and any extra info if possible. 1 I believe is Aechmea fasciata with the flower yet to fully open. 2 A Neoregelia 3 This, I think could be a Cryptanthus is this it's flower?
Here are 3 more pics of the last one. 1 is a close up of flower 2 is a pup beginning at the base. 3 is the complete plant (the dark spots on the leaf are from rain (laugh) we've had).
3 reminds me of Pineapples as well, but one of the smaller species, not normally cultivated for their fruits. I'd agree with Chris, A. nanus sounds about right. See where that flower bud goes...
I have had a dwarf pineapple and the plant itself still resembled a full size pineapple plant, I have also seen a few different varieties of the ornamental pineapple which again looked like minature version of a full sized pineapple. The leaf on this plant is more like that of a Cryptanthus (almost leathery) rather than any pineapple plants I have seen. Then the flower does look like it's possible as does the leaf in Saltcedar's link so I'll post an update in a few weeks of the flower so you can see what develops:} I picked it up at a fete where I managed to pick up 3 different definite Cryptanthus that's why I thought it may have been one too, until it flowered...
Thanks Liz added to favourites and scanning the site now. Nothing on the Ananas there but the ones I've dealt with. I have, however, found a few others that I've got and some that I will now have to find for my yard:}
I found it: Orthophytum gurkenii cv. Warren Loose. Thank you Liz it was on the site, here is a link http://www.bromeliad.org.au/pictures/Orthophytum/WarrenLoose.htm and info on where and what here: http://www.bromsqueensland.com/OrthophytumWarrenLooseRevisited.htm
