I believe this is some type of Juniper, but don’t know which one. It is on the same glacial till slope as mentioned in request for Plant ID(2). Also in the very wet section. This was doing very well previously but the yard has been somewhat neglected over past few years. I’m not sure if the water is a new issue, as have only lived here a few years.

I would also like to know, if possible, if hard pruning where evidence of new growth shows, would stimulate this growth. I’m not sure if there is a specific pruning forum, but thought I’d ask here and maybe someone can help.

    Looks like Juniperus communis.

Thank you. I forgot to say it only gets about six to eight inches off the ground.

Ditto to Juniperus communis; presumably J. c. var depressa, the variety native to much of North America.

It doesn't respond very well to pruning; avoid doing so if you can, only a light trim - don't cut into old wood as this won't regrow.
