    Hello,
I need help! First let me say, that I don't know the first thing about proper care for plants and don't even really know the proper language to be using when talking about trimming/cutting/pruning etc. So please - anyone who is able to help - dumb it down a bit for me!

I have been living in my downtown Vancouver apartment for three years and the living room is soaked in sunlight. When I moved in, I inherited a Madagascar Palm that was too tall to move out of the building. It has thrived since I have been here and is around 9 feet tall and has now hit the ceiling and is starting to bend.

I've grown quite fond of this plant and want to know if it will live if I cut it by say, two feet. If so, the next question is, do I cut it at the top and just let it continue to grow or do I cut it at the bottom and replant?

If I cut a few feet off the top, can I replant this part? If so, any tips on how to do so successfully?

Finally, is there anything I need to know about cutting the plant in a way that will not do it any harm.

I appreciate any help you can provide.

    Thanks.
