I have a Bing Cherry tree that is showing signs of a boring insect. There are several areas where sap is flowing in addition to the leaves on those branches are dying. I cut off one of the branches but could not see any signs of an insect but did notice that the interior of the branch and turning brown. How can I find out what the problem is if I cannot see an insect? Please help, I'm desperate and do not want this to spread to other fruit trees in the area.
Have a look through the Integrated Pest Management Guidelines for Cherries from UC Davis - that should help you identify the problem from descriptions and photographs.
