I have have a few different winter squash. As plants they are looking great but, as they produce fruit that is the problem. They start nice and green and hard then, turn yellow and soft. I've been cutting them off thinking it just the first one that are like that but it doesn't seam to be changing. My only thought is that I've been watering too much but I'm not sure. Any ideas are appriciated.
Hi there, are the fruit still relatively small when they start to die off? Perhaps the female flowers are not being pollinated? You could try helping them out by hand pollinating the female flowers... here are some pages with pictures that may be helpful: http://mandysmunchies.blogspot.ca/2009/08/pollinating-butternut-squash-by-hand.html http://masterofhort.com/2013/01/hand-pollinating-squash/ This is my first guess, perhaps someone else may have other ideas for what the problem could be...
Thanks Konachick, I have since started hand pollination thinking the might have been the problem ( even with a 4 story bee hive 20' away ). This seams to have been the problem, I already have some decent squash. Thanks again.
