I was given a three foot tall japanese lace leaf maple.
I live in Northern BC climate zone 2 and we get VERY cold winters here.
The maple is indoors at the moment in a pot and its leaves are drying and falling off even though iv'e been watering it.
I wasn't aware they can't survive indoors, Available to me are a plastic greenhouse a wood barn (uninsulated) and a wood shed.
What can I do ?? what sort of temperatures and nutrients and so on will this tree need to survive ??

I am thinking of wrapping the pot in burlap up too the branches then burying the pot in the greenhouse.

There is no house foundation to bury it near.

Please help !! thank you for your time !

You should leave it out doors during the seasons that it's not very cold. It won't survive for long indoors.

Your enemy is, I think, the temperatures. The plant will survive approximately to zone 5, so if it stays warmer that that in the greenhouse then you'll be OK. Certainly won't hurt to wrap it, and burying the pot is normally a good strategy for keeping the roots warm enough in very cold climates.

What's the minimum temp in the greenhouse in winter, typically, and how does this compare with outside temps?

There's a poster here named "zonebreaker" who IIRC posts from zone 2, perhaps he'll have some more specific advise.

    Hello!
The way i do it, and it seems to work fine. Is in a "earth celler" same type of place were you store potatos (in the country)during winter.Damp, dark ,3-4 degrees C.
Get the soil damp before you put it in there, and dont water until it´s dry(can take 2 months or more)
    dont over water it!
Than take it out when the leafs start to bud out and shelter it from frost.
(A unheated green house on the winter is colder than under the snow...)
    God luck!
