Help with IDing flower

    It has 8 purple petals with a yellow center. Grows from 12" to 8'. It has a canelike stalk. I think it might be a member of sunflower family but have searched and found nothing. I planted it from an Arizona wildflower seed packet. Any ideas?

    Looks like Cosmos bipinnatus.
