I have a 32 year old Jade tree which I have nutured. Last week my plants accidently froze (temp went down in the teens). I have pruned the rotten parts of the plant, which was originally large. Some of the thick trunks are still hard, although all the leaves died. The roots did not have time to freeze. Can this plant be saved?

    Hi Whauter,

So sorry to hear that this happened. If the roots didn't freeze, you have a chance of regeneration. Pruning off the dead parts will certainly help.

Maybe someone else will come along with more helpful info.
    Good luck,
    Newt

    Thanks Newt

I appreciate the sympathy. I am hoping someone will respond who has had this experience. I see you live in MD. I live in VA.

  4. My ten-yr old jade froze last night. I can't yet tell whether it was seriously damaged, but a lot of the leaves look pretty bad. Did you have any luck rescuing your plant? Has anybody else had experience saving a jade that froze? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

  5. I must admit I feel a lot less like a dope seeing that the winter came too quickly for more than just me....I also froze my 10 yr old jade plant (nurtured from a tiny start)! I see a lot of questions, and hope for an answer. It is sitting in my front room, poor little thing...

In usually balmy Victoria, BC, I was caught short when we were hit with snow followed by below 0 degrees centigrade. My jade of over 30 years was outside. I brought it in as the brittle leaves dropped off. I have not repotted the plant in decades. The branches all bent over and remain soft.

Will the plant recover? If not, what is the best bet?

Just cut off the "squishy" bits and wait until spring. If the whole plant froze sold, then it is dead. If not then it will start to grow again when it gets warmer.
