I'm hoping someone might be able to help me identify these flowering trees. I have encountered them growing in downtown Chicago, IL, in an area that is obviously landscaped near where the river meets Lake Michigan.
The trees have dark green leaves about 1-1.5 inches wide and near the off-white, tiny blooms the leaves are light green and skinny. The smell of the blossoms is magnificent, not quite like honey suckle. I've included pictures below, unfortunately, I didn't have a camera with me when I encounterd the tree, so I plucked off a leaf and a bloom to bring home and try to identify. They have dried out a little.

    All help is appreciated!

Thank you both very much! From what I looked up it must be the Linden exactly as you suggested.
