Help, I've been trying to grow these leaf cuts from a cactus. I dont know if its eater or christmas. The new leaves look very healthy but the old ones developed these brown spots on them.. Can someone please tell me if its a christmas or easter cactus, and what are these brown spots and how can i take care of it. I have two cactus of this kind, one is a larger plant that a receive as a gift a long time ago, i take care of both the same way, only this one has developed these brown spots.. Thanks in advance...
I think it's too dry. Water more often. A period of cool temperatures is required for Easter cactus (Hatiora) to bloom. I've never gotten it to flower as a regular house plant. One that was blank for years got moved to a friend's unheated, attached greenhouse and now flowers again. Another friend was seen keeping one outdoors nearly throughout the year (USDA 8). If yours is instead a Christmas cactus it may need to be placed under a cover in fall to give it the long nights that trigger flowering of this plant. Or you could instead grow Thanksgiving (crab) cactus, I sometimes get flowering from these twice per year under ordinary living room conditions. Easily found in bloom during the holidays at local outlets, including grocery stores with floral departments.
It's an Easter cactus. It's difficult to see what the brown spots are. Sometimes they dry up and that's it, in other cases they spread and kill the plant. Watch carefully if it grows. If it does, throw out the plant (it cannot be cured).
