    Hello all,

We've just bought a house in Vancouver with a great garden and I need some help indentifying a berry bush.
It is about 6 feet high and 4 feet wide in a nice sunny spot. The berries are small pea sized and starting to turn red.
I'm assuming they're edible as everything else in that area is but I won't try it until I'm sure.
I've attached an image to give an idea of berry size, leaf shape, and bark.
I'm new here so appreciate all the help and look forward to the great information available and hope I can give as well if the time comes.
    Thanks,

Sure looks like Ribes, currant. If you are not familiar with the fruit, they are tart and usually used for pies, juices and preserves rather than fresh eating.

Great, thank you. Sounds like a preserve that would go well with roast chicken!

In addition to being planted in gardens for fruit it is frequent in local revegetation plantings, apparently having been confused by growers or contractors with Ribes sanguineum.

Red Currants are too watery for pies or preserves other than jellies, for which they are great. They are also good for juice. Rødgrød med Fløde sounds good, too. They are also very healthy. As for eating them raw, hmm, it is a matter of taste.

I have to agree, tried making a pie once end result was too runny, I now eat them fresh. Very tasty.
