We have a dogwood tree on the north side of the house near the septic tank drain field. The root system has been exposed for a couple of months and yesterday we noticed that it has begun to uproot itself. Any ideas would be appreicated. I had thought that we need to try and right the tree ( it's about 18 feet tall) and bury the roots. Joe thinks we need to trim it way back . The leaves on the tree are still green and there is new growth in many places of the tree.

While we are not expecting high winds from Hurricane Frances, only a bit of rain tomorrow. We don't know what Hurricane Ivan will be up to later in the week.

    Would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks so much,
    Hennie

I think I have different dogwoods from yours--Pacific Dogwoods--in northern California. However, I get wind burn on the leaves (brown dry edges) when there are strong winds and storms. You may have to try to protect the tree from winds, preferably in a location that is protected, or at least stake the tree trunk rather tightly so it doesn't sway too much.

    See if that helps!
