How can I get rid of wild sweet pea in an environmentally friendly way. I have pulled out many shoots but the main root is too deep. Currently I am spraying the new shoots every day with pickling vinegar which kills them but more keep coming up. Will this work or is there a better way?
I have the same problem and am just about ready for a chemical solution! My experience with vinegar, (and it's better if salt is added and a little dish detergent) is that it requires really hot direct sun to work. It will kill the top growth, but probably not the roots. Another alternative might be to cut the foliage back and cover it with heavy black plastic. That will starve it of light to grow, and if it's in direct sun, will probably cook it to death. Good luck to us both!
how about alcohol? sure its a chem, but it evaporates fully and leaves no nasty stuff behind. i would think cutting them down and soaking the ground with a dilute solution (50% ?) shoud kill many.
