help, what is this?

    Please if anyone knows what plant this is. It's been growing in a big pot in my back yard. I live in upstate NY. It seems to be a vine, the leaves have a serrated edge & the vine is prickly, it grabs at you as you walk by. If this is something good I want to give it a good home, I just don't know where it came from or what it is.
    I added a close up of the leaves, I hope this helps to identify it.

    looks like virginia creeper - present from a bird :)

    Yes, looks much like a Virginia creeper. It's a good vine for climbing fences, walls, posts, etc. and so far hasn't wrapped around any of my other plants.

    Good find if you have a use for it, or if you like the look - but if you don't, just trash it.

    Not a Parthenocissus. Does look like a Humulus.
