We have this beautiful 3 petal blue flowering plant, that blooms from May to Sept. Opens in the Am closes after about 4-6 hours of sun. Back up the next day. Never any spent flowers. We live in the central valley of california, very hot in summer. Grass like leaves long, spike buds about half inch in size, that as mentioned open up and close. I tried to "paste" a jpeg here it did not work Any ideas?

Blue-eyed grass? Could this be your plant? Sisyrinchium bellum? It fits the description... grows well in California, flowers open and close in sunshine and are somewhat triangulated in form, grass like leaves. I love this plant!
Could it be Tradescantia? Sounds like Tradescantia sp. or Spiderwort. There are several kinds, here are 2 images I found on the internet. Does it look like this? Sure is a lovely blue... Cheers, Lulu in Langley
How about sagebrush mariposa (calochortus macrocarpus i think) http://www.desert.org/plantpages/maralily.html
