Hello, I can't figure this one out. Maybe someone here can help. Facts about it, It was seen on the side of a dirt road in NW Arkansas. (USDA zone 8 ish) At first we thought it was a tree but in fact it was either a vine or a small tree which which was growing up against a larger trunked Elm Tree. It has branches like a tree but was attached like a vine. It has been a wet year and ground was moist. We had just had our first frost. The soild was probably slightly acidic as is most of the unworked soil around here and this was on the side of the road. There was plenty of light available to this plant The pictures were taken a couple of days ago, just after our first frost of the year. the leaves looked sort of droopy as if it resented this frost but maybe survived it. Tried to get you a close up of these strange blooms or seed pods. It may be helpful to tell you that the orange part is stiff like a berry and the white part is not as stiff and it looks as though the berries emerged from it like a kernal exploding from popcorn. I hope someone can figure it out. Never have seen this around here. I would be happy to provide more info if needed and/or take more images if needed. If I am posting correctly (new here) there will be links to 3 images below.
