I just bought this last summer and I am planning to air layer some of the branches. I did not prune any branch last fall. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
little hard to tell from the pictures, but looks like the rot extends all the way to the graft. i'd say it's a goner. i also wouldn't have super high hopes trying to propagate anything that's still alive, but i guess you can try. why, though? shishagashira is such a common and relatively inexpensive cultivar. surely you could get a new (smaller) one fairly quickly and cheaply.
Thank for your honesty. It is sad to lose a plant. I will just experiment on it. Something might come out positive.
