#1 Galium boreale or Northern bedstraw #2 A Campanula? Not sure of species but someone else might recognize it. If it is a wildflower, you might try to narrow it down from this list at the USDA plants page. Perhaps C. lasiocarpa? Harry
#2 has the flower form of Campanula punctata and C. takesimana, but I can't make out the leaves in the photo.
Daon't know the latin name but is Campanula 'Cherry Bells'.Will spread rapidly via underground runners.
'Cherry Bells' is a cultivar of Campanula punctata. We have C. rotundifolia here which is very weedy and hard ot get rid of. If similar you might want to pull it before it spreads. Any bit of the root left will resprout. Harry
Oh, wait a minute, I can see some leaves in the bottom of the picture on this monitor... The leaves that are visible seem similar to C. puncata (or some hybrid) - as they lack the winged leaf petioles of C. takesimana. However, not many of the leaves are showing, and perhaps the plant is not very mature either, so that apparent distinction may not be conclusive. Anyway, a campanula of that ilk... In colder climates, invasiveness tends to be rather less of a problem than in warmer zones (speaking from my own experience)... and of course, depending on one's tolerance to it. C. rotundifolia is a native plant here (probably there too, I imagine) - after growing it for many years, I haven't found it to spread from the roots to any extent, nor to reseed rampantly - probably the difference between rather harsh conditions here and much "softer" conditions there. I've also grown C. punctata for many years and have only found the need to start "controlling" it's spread this year, after starting it from seed 9-10 years ago. So, it depends....
Just planted some this spring for a ground cover. Each plant has spread a foot or more from the original plant.
Thank you all so much for your expertise! This is the best garden forum I've seen lately. Galium boreale or Northern bedstraw seems to be the correct id for #1. Someone had thought it was Sweet Woodruff, but the plant I have is much daintier than the woodruff pics I've looked at. and woodruff has many more (shiny) leaves in the whorl. Mine are dull with, I think, 4-5 leaves per node. Campanula punctata- Picture #2. I spent a lot of time searching the internet on this one. The"Cherry Bells" lt's flower & leaves look most like my plant. Long, thin and lightly serrated leaves. I have more to post; just waiting to see if it will bloom.... 3dognite AKA pam
