I have a braided Pachira plant. There are no visible bugs in the soil or on the leaves. No sign of webs either. I have been watering it about 1x a week due to the increase in heat on the east coast these past weeks. The top leaves have begun to droop a little and some have white spots: which are dry, they look like burns from over exposure to the sun. I have had the plant for about a year or so now and I don't want to lose it . What can I do? HELP !!!!
The white spots could be due to hard water (calcium) from your watering can, but it's hard to say. If they're droopy, though, either increase or decrease watering time to see what happens. I presume you're keeping it indoors? It doesn't like a lot of sun, so if it's in a very bright window, I'd move it elsewhere.
Thanks Rima I had been placing the plant in direct sunlight for the past week or so because the leaves began to lose their dark green color. I have been using filtered water since I purchased the plant and these spots just began. Is there anything I can do to test calicum levels or how should I treat the water?. I live in N.J. where the water is considered hard(chemical laden). Are there any links on this site that can give me tips that will help me better care for my plants. With the drooping what could be the problem and Doyou have any directions for me?, I used to believe that I have a green thumb but now I have begun to wonder?. Anything that you can tell me about better care for the plant will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Forgot to ask Rima I forgot to ask you do you have any suggestion on how to treat the water before I water the plants.?
I now have more leaves with white spots and they are coming out on the new leaves as well. Some of the leaves have turned totally white. I use water filtered by Britta water filter and I let it stand before using it. One of the braided branches feels as if it is dead. What should I do. Repot it?, Air out the soil? I don't have any idea of what I should do? HELP
Don't use a filter - you asked and I said just use tap water, but filtering (and distillation and bottling) take out half the good stuff (to a plant). Other than that, I can't say, though I wonder if you don't just have powdery mildew (is the white stuff powdery looking?) which would mean you're keeping the soil way too wet on top. You'll need a mild house plant fungicide to drench it with if that's the problem, and better air circ. and water less often.
Thanks The spots are actually spots not powder. I will hold back on the watering and I will let it stand and air out before I use it. Do you have any suggestions to purchase Parchira Aquatica plants in the Jersey City area. Your help and quick responses are truely appreciated. THANK YOU!!!!
Hi, I live in Canada, so don't think I'd be much help that way :-), but they seem to be sold in so many places, from Wal-Mart to supermkts, to everywhere, so I can't imagine you'll have too much trouble finding a new one. BTW, it's PaCHira, not PaRchira.
Thank you for the response. I have decided to lighten up on the watering for a few days while airing the soil. I didn't know you resided in Canada, it must be beautiful in this time of year?. I'm gonna venture out to some nurseries in N.J. to see what I find. Anytime you have a pointer for me feel free to drop me an e-mail. I'm always ready to be brought up to date on the latest ]GREEN THUMB tips. THANK you and stay in touch. BYE
