    grapfruit tree.

I have a Grapfruit tree that grew from a seed in my front flower bed it is now 3 to 4 years old. What I want to know is can I transplant it to a better area? I did not plant it there; I must of throwen some seeds from a ruby red grapfruit I was eating and one grew up.[/quote]

Spring and Fall are the best time for transplant, and if you can find out full sun area is good for grapefuit.

    Hi, Tina.
Since it is happy growing where it is, is it wise to transplant it? I guess your zone must be higher than 6 for it to survive the winter. If you suspect that the cold could kill it then transplant it in early spring into a 10 gallon pot as it grows pretty big. In a pot you can have the plant in full sun in spring and summer, then keep it next to the south facing house wall in winter or in an unheated garage with artificial lighting if possible. I wonder if your zone provides sufficient days of strong sun to encourage flowering and fruiting. Anyway the very green foliage and stems look contrastingly welcome in a dull winter scene.
