Just another lovely flower in my southern Alabama neighborhood...and I need help identifying. Looks like a type of magnolia blossom? but not sure. Blooms on this huge TREE in April....

    Thanks!

Thanks, Ron B! Glad I wasn't off on the 'magnolia' guess.....but with the vast number of varieties...I was lost. Thanks to you, I'm now found.'

    Happy Holidays!

With zipcodezoo (in my experience, a very poor reference), I'd not be surprised if it is a metres-feet confusion; a reliable reference I checked cites 6 metres for Magnolia figo.

I've so enjoyed reading all of these threads. Thanks for the information. I love the name....Michaela figo...that's wonderful! And the smell is delicious. Ahhh yes...banana sweet! Thanks for all your comments. This particular specimen is quite tall...a tree rather than a shrub...blooms in April here in the southeast....and we're in Zone 8.

Michelia, Manglietia etc. considered by some to belong to Magnolia, this view may prevail generally in time. DNA work indicates genetic makeup of Magnolia, significance of exterior anatomical features varies with interpretation. For instance, flowering side-branches of Michelia have been deemed to be instead reduced terminal branches by view favoring placement in Magnolia.
