I never planted the plant in the bottom of my garden so I believe a bird must have a seed or something,I've looked on the internet without any joy so I'm hoping some of the forum members may be able to identify it for me. Thanks Jonsyl.
It's a mullein, Verbascum spp..... compare to Verbascum nigrum, which has yellow flowers with purple stamens, and also to Verbascum thapsis.
Thanks very much for your quick response in the help I needed to identify the plant in my garden,I will now be able to find all i need to look after it' thanks. Jonsyl. (Jack)
thanks for the reply i must agree wth you both as sinse the first post i tried another site from google and the BBC Garden site, I'm still not sure weather to leave it alone or dig it out, as some sites class it as a weed, but on the bbc garden site it's a plant, I like the look of it but it's 6'6" at the moment and still growing i've support for it with a long cane i've never seen anything like it in Peterlee where I live. thanks Jonsyl (Jack)
Up to you whether to keep it or not. It is a native plant here, so no harm in it. A lot of the sites you saw may have been dealing with it as an invasive weed where it isn't native. Saw one a couple of days ago down near the banks of the Tyne.
Thanks Michael i will keep it just to get my family and friends guessing what it is, most say it's a weed.but i like it. Thanks Jonsyl
A lot of people like the flowers. Just take care if you decide to keep it, Mullein will reseed itself with joyful abandon. If you let it go to seed, next year you'll have Mullein plants coming up everywhere.
Thanks to Wid Rose and Hermit for their reply and comments, I will be keeping the plant and i will keep up with it as not to over run my garden thanks again for the tips. Jonsyl
