I have a 12 ft. tall Vandakay red cherry tree that did not bear any fruit last year due to unexpected frost. However, this year I got tonnes of flowers and presently there are a lot of cherries about a little over 1/2 inch in size. I have recently noticed that some of the cherries are beginning to brown and fall off. While I have sprayed other pear and plum tress with Formula 70 Fruit Tree Spray, I have not done so on this particular cherry tree because I have read soemwhere that cherry trees do not need to be sprayed. Question: Is my tree getting some disease and if so, how do I prevent it; or is it normal that some cherries will fall of anyways? Secondly, this year, I have not put any fruit tree manure stakes into the ground. Should I be doing something differently so the cherries will become large and remain on the tree till thy fully ripen? Another question I would appreciate being answered is, how much water does my cherry tree require and should I be doing something different to prevent birds from eating my cherries? Your help will be greatly appreciated. -Jasbir
