I bought and planted a red maple 4 years ago. the first 3 seasons it looked good. last year i noticed the very top did not get leafs on it but over all it looked healthy. in the fall i thought the leaves came off a little early and a lot turned brown instead of red.this spring only one branch has leaves. what can i do. it was about 12' feet or so.i scratched the bark as high as i could reach with my finger nail and there is green color to it. the branch with leaves on it is one of the larger low branches.
How deep is it planted? can you see the trunk/root flare? how wet is your soil? did it come balled and burlaped or was it in a container? Are there buds on the branches that failed to leaf out? are they still green or are they brown and dry?
