How to Attach Images - the forum software will automatically resize most large images, unless it is extremely big.

If you need help resizing an image because it's too big for the forums software, then I suggest either hosting it on something like Flickr or using a free program like Irfanview to make a smaller image for posting.

photobucket.com and webshots.com are other hosting sites that offer free accounts, too.

    ahh, that worked!!

it looks like the corn plant aka dracaena fragans.

likes a well draining soil and the soil should be allowed to dry out pretty well before watering again. bright light - not full-on sun, just in an area that is very bright.

If it seems malnourished, buy a tin of sardines and plant a couple in the pot. Smelly, but it works wonders on my dracaenas. Or, alternately, fish fertilizer should be available in your local garden stores.

i agree, it doesn't look all that healthy - the leaves should definitely have more vibrant color! i'd thought it was a matter of not enough light. of course, you're right, fertlizing is just as important!

i've heard lots of people mention using the water from their fish tanks after they've done the weekly maintenance. are you serious about burying the sardines in the soil???

Sardines in the pot? My dog will have a field day. And the plant is dead meat! And I will be too busy cleaning the mess up to cry over it!

I'm dead serious - but if you have a dog, look for fish fertilizer rather than using actual fish. (and on second thought, fresh fish will work better than tinned.) This should be available at your local greenhouse, or if not then go to (shudder) Home Depot or the like. Not so stinky, and your dog shouldn't go for it. But just in case, try a spot in a pot of just dirt and see what happens.

Equally, fishtank water is normally high in nitrates, which won't hurt.
