Help me identify

    I need help in identifying what kind of plant this is. It was spotted on the Lone Star Hiking Trail, by the Four Notches Loop section in the Sam Houston National Forest. Thanks for any help,

    Likely some kind of gall. It's part of the oak tree, produced in response to a gall insect.
