Help me identify this plant in y yard.

    It is approximately 4 feet tall, when it flowers it sends off 1 large deep purple blossom that is shaped like a cala lily. The leafs look a little like a philadendron, does anyone know what this might be?

    Frequently asked about on web sites such as this one and rather common in gardens here, although not seen much in outlets during my time until recently. Smells like a dead rat when first open, a definite drawback. Otherwise quite a marvel. The fruits, when produced are also a hoot - like flourescent orange corncobs when mature.
