I am just getting into trees and stuff and have a few books but sometimes it is so difficult to identify things. Attached are some pictures. I see these all the time on my walking trails and wanted to know if I could eat them.

    Thanks.

A species of Elaeagnus, probably Elaeagnus umbellata (Japanese Silverberry). An invasive weed plant in your area. The fruit is edible, but not particularly nice.

Thanks. Actually I tried them and they are pretty tasty but they have a hard inner...so you can basically just suck off the sweet juice and then spit the rest out.

I will definately use this forum more often. I have several trees in the yard of my new house that are tough for me to identify.

    Thanks again!
