I saw this tree at a new nursery I found near by. They have a nice selection, more than any place I found around here. Most of the trees seemed to be tagged correctly but this one was missing its tag but I liked it so I got it anyway. I'm guessing it is a Japonicum because it was with a bunch of others but this was the only one of this cultivar. It looks different than my other Japonicums and I can't seem to ID it based off any of my books. The thing that stands out the most different from my others is the redish bark. The closest tree I've found so far is Lovett but I'd love to get some of your opinions on what you think it might be. Pictures are not the best, they got a little bleached from the sun but give them a look and see what you think. I can get better pics if you think it would help. Thanks!

    Perhaps Acer sieboldianum 'Sode-no-uchi'?

I think you might be on to something. After looking at pictures and reading some descriptions it sounds like it might match. I didn't even notice that the leaves are much smaller than my Japonicums so that would make sence.
