Help me ID what these are, because I'm new to this and have no idea. I know in all my time I've spent in the woods, I've seen them a lot, just never took the time to find out what they were. First: Second: Third: Fourth: God Bless, Joshua
<frog steps up to the plate, spits on her hands, and prepares to take a swing> 1. Looks like old Chondrostereum purpureum, which grows on hardwoods and conifers. The underside gets brown with age. The fruiting bodies are usually a couple centimeters across, at least the ones I come across, but perhaps they get larger. How big were these and what kind of tree? 2. Maybe the same. Margin is more even ... I'm not sure. 3. If this is a photo of #1 from the underside, then it no longer looks quite like old Chondrostereum, the underside doesn't look dark enough. Maybe another Stereum species? 4. I'd like to see a different photo of this. It sorta looks like an old and mouldy cluster of Auricula. I'm not very familiar with Exidia, but dried and mouldy Exidia also comes to mind, because of the colour and amorphous-ness. I have no real guess here. - frog
I have nothing to add on Frog's comments to #1-#3.. As for #4, I was also initially thinking Auricula. However, Tremella foliacea (or similar) should also be strongly considered.
