Hi, I brought this peace lilly home from my grandmother's funeral. She died at 98 so I cherish this plant. It has done well, I guess, since October 2006. A few days ago, I decided to try to bloom it. I added some fertilizer and I also overwatered the plant. I have allowed the excess water to drain, but gave some water again yesterday. Please provide some direction. I used "Proven Winners" premium soluble plant food for flowering plants. 24-12-17+ minors. The plant sits in my office on the file cabinet about four feet from a eastside window from which I control light. Good light but blinds are drawn. Plant first drooped, now within 2 days, I am noticing some yellow leaves. A few browning leaves were already present. It has flopped more since yesterday. Help. Pics included
My guess is that there is not drain hole in that basket. The roots have rotted from too much water. Now the plant can't draw up water and so it looks wilted and has yellow leaves. I also guess that the plant is in a pot inside that basket. Take the pot out of the basket and make sure not to let the plant sit in water.
I am not sure why you did that to make it bloom, mine blooms continusouly. My best guess is that you overwatered and overfertilized it. Peace lilies do not fertilizer..When fertilizing use 1/2 strength 20-20-20 about once every 3 months or so. It's feet are definetly too wet. I suggest you remove it dirt and all from the pot and transplant it in light airy soil. Do not water again. Let it dry out..
