We received this plant in a dish garden years ago. This was the only one that survived after transplants. We have had it for a long time, without knowing what it was. Now we need to split the "one" plant that has now become two, but we are unsure how to do it safely without knowing what the plant is. My husband has doctored this plant back to health more than once, so we really don't want to hurt it! Thanks so much for any help.
My neighbor wanted me to cut her 3' 'Dracaena' back to a smaller height because it was getting too tall for the space it was in. For your plant, you can cut the larger plant off flush at the base, as close to the smaller plant as possible. Then you'll want to cut the larger one you just cut off pretty much in half, stripping some of the leaves at the bottom to make at least a 3" bare stem, then it can be rooted. It's better to use a small pot rather then a large one. Use a well draining pot with good draining reg soil. The bottom half of the cut plant can either be planted also, or just be thrown out. Dracaena's do well in bright indirect light, water well when dry.
Is deremensis now called fragrans?? I can't keep up, lol, just remember someone saying something about it, could be wrong : ( Ed
