I'm in the process of identifying some bushes that are in my yard! I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. :) The first one, I didn't get a full picture of the plant itself but of its flower, the one that's left, and the leaves. White flowers marched down the entire length of the branch: The second one: Thank you guys! Holly
Mystery plant number one is, I believe, a Gooseberry. Mystery plant number two is strongly familiar but I can't put my finger on it.... Berberis spp (Barberry) maybe? or Arctostaphylos (Bearberry)? Argh. Edit - or ignore me - Ron is normally 100% correct.
Thank you! The first one certainly does look like a rubus parviflorus, and I think the cotoneaster is a cranberry cotoneaster, though since I bought this house from an avid gardener, I think the height shown on a few websites of being 3 feet actually is closer to six; I think the bush is several decades old. I don't think it's a gooseberry as the bush doesn't have thorns and the berries are not that large. Thank you very much!
Rubus not a thimbleberry, very likely R. deliciosus instead. Not cranberry cotoneaster. More like Peking cotoneaster. There's about 400 species, with some of them mixed up in cultivation.
