Wildflowers: Help Identifying This Wildflower

    Missoula, MT USA
    I found this wildflower at the end of the season in the Rockies of Western Montana last year. I am not clear on whether it once had colored petals or was always bare. It was tall, 3 feet about, and growing near a creek, in wet land. There were many of them in the area but I had never seen them before. Any idea what this is?
