Can someone help my identify this plant that was given to me. The person who gave it to me siad it would help lower my cholesterol.
It look like it not suppose to have flowers, had it for quite awhile now and it never had any flowers growing on it.
It is definitely a flowering plant. Whether conditions are (or ever will be) right for it to flower is another matter.
I agree with Toutlan: It does look like an avacado tree. What kind though I couldn't even begin to guess. If it was started from an avacado pit I don't know that it will ever bear fruit.
Ricecooker, What part of the plant is supposed to be eaten to benefit from it's cholesterol lowering effect?
Weekend Gardener, you would eat the fruit. Here's avocado info and pics. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/MG213 Newt
Newt, I think WG was trying to figure out what ricecooker was told re: lowering cholesterol as an attempt to confirm (or suggest other alternatives) for the identification of the original posted plant.
Daniel, it sounded to me that Weekend Gardener wanted to know what part of the tree is eaten to lower cholesterol. Avacados are supposed to be one of the foods to do this. Maybe I should have stated that. Is that what you mean? http://www.all-about-lowering-cholesterol.com/avocado-cholesterol-and-avocado-fat.html Newt
Sort of. It sounded to me that WG wanted to know what part of this as-yet-unidentified plant (which strongly resembles an avocado to some (as for me, I've no idea)) was purported to help lower cholesterol, thereby perhaps giving a clue to its identity. If it was the fruit to be ingested, then that would add weight to the suggestion that it is indeed an avocado.
