Help identifying this plant please.

    I got this plant several years ago without a label. it's been doing great and grows quite tall (so tall that the stem broke on the parent plant, the one in the picture is what used to be a small offspring off the parent plant roots.) it is growing quite nicely however I would like to know if the plant can be guided, or make it grow into a tree like plant instead of one long stem that grows too tall.
