I took this at the local botanical gardens and I thought I knew what it was, but now I'm home I haven't a clue (I thought it was canna indica but I really doubt it) About the image: Here is one of the pictures I took at the botanical gardens the other day. Well, actually, it is 10 pictures, each taken at a different focus point and then fused into a single image by TuFuse from Max Lyons. The photos were taken with a very old Nikon bayonette mount 55mm macro lens mounted on my Nikon D80. I had to manually select both f/stop and shutter speed because the lens only works as a full manual lens (no light metering through the lens). I had to import the whole group into Photoshop CS3 and align the images, then export them prior to fusing. I tried Helicon Focus with the unaligned images, as it is supposed to align them, but it made a mess of the whole thing. (I didn't retry with the Photoshop aligned images because it's only the trial version and it watermarks the image)

Crocosmia 'Lucifer', perhaps the most popular cultivar, was recently featured on the Botany Photo of the Day. http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/potd/2008/08/crocosmia_lucifer_1.php
