Hi all - Came across this fantastic delicate purple flowering plant beneath small cedars on south-facing part of my North Vancouver property. The leaves on the left of this mirage are the flower's. So, what is it? Is it relatively hardy? (Interested in perhaps moving other examples to other parts of property). Thanks!
Dicentra, bleeding heart. There are a couple native species. This looks rather like Dicentra formosa, but I can't tell from the photo. Dicentra is a common garden shade plant and it could easily have come from a garden source. You may also want to look around for some of the other bleeding hearts available. http://linnet.geog.ubc.ca/Atlas/Atlas.aspx?sciname=Dicentra%20formosa&redblue=Both&lifeform=7
Hi Eric - Great - thanks so much for your informative (and fast) reply. My garden is currently waking up from the winter/spring...so lots of new leaves, flowers and mystery plants to identify (first season with this property). Thanks, Nick.
