I recently acquired a potted plant but I was not told what it was. When I got it, it had very small white flowers on it which were fragrant. These have now died off (they can just about be seen in the attached image). The leaves/stems have no scent and the stems are fairly hard and stick-like. The older stems at the base have turned yellow.
I just wondered if anyone could tell me what it is and also give some care advice... It appears to be dying off, and I am unsure if it will come back next year etc....

    Thanks!

That looks like some hardy perennial, maybe Gypsophila repens?, you should be growing in the ground outdoors.

thanks, yes it does look like the pictures i just googled of Gypsophila repens... i went to a wedding recently where these plants were in the middle of each table in pots.. at the end of the wedding, the mother of the bride gave the potted plants away to the guests.. thats how i acquired it... i left it in its original pot, and dont have a garden so cant grow it outside... any tips on how to look after it?

I recommend giving it to a friend who can plant it outside, in full sun---where it can creep, as is its wont. Your plant is trying its best but is yearning for the outdoors.

I am afraid I agree with togata, I just do not think it will be at all happy indoors - especially in a grey skied Manchester. Give it to a friend with a garden...but demand visiting rights!
