I bought property once owned by a serious horticulturalist. I found a plant growing among the ornamentals that I have never seen before. It blooms only once but the flower is deep blood red. It does not get very tall at all. I have included a picture of the foilage. Can anyone ID this??? It seems to be based on a tuber system, likes mostly shade but will tolerate a little sun. Needs moist rich soil.

Thanks, but doubtful. All photos I've found of Wild Ginger show the leaves rather thin-fleshed, no spotting, delicate looking with elongated slender stems. This plant is mildly thick-fleshed and does not get more than an inch or so high. Also the descriptions of the flower for Wild Ginger just don't match my plant's flower. My plant has a flower that makes you think of a Canna or some kind of lily. But thanks for trying!

There are about 70 species of Asarum.

If none at link have flowers that are at all right then maybe it is some kind of aroid, based on stated resemblance to calla.
