Can you please:) help me identify these flowers in my garden? First (pic# 1): the yellow ones with the orange centre started out with bushy foliage and low to the ground and they grew really fast in May - some started to shoot in early June have since flowered. They look like daisies - but I have no idea what they are called. Second (pic# 2): this other yellow one does not have that interesting orange pattern, but is equally pretty. The petals look very similar though. Third (pic# 3&4): this one came up crazy fast with dark green foliage - started flowering in June and the buds turn a burnish orange when they are about to open. They have multiple buds on one stem. Fourth (pic# 5&6) - this is some kind of azalea/rhododendron - I think. Problem is, it didn't flower this spring and seems to have slow foliage growth. It had no leaves during the winter either. There is another one that looks similar - but the leaves lasted throughout the winter (which makes it an evergreen?) and flowered (back in late March, early April) amazing pinkish-purple flowers that took over the plant, then died back in two weeks. The evergreen plant has grown numerous new leaves, but very little new growth for the one pictured. Thanks a bunch for any help!
Your fourth plant does look to be a deciduous azalea/rhododendron. The foliage you see is the new growth, not sure why it didn't flower, the flower buds would have been there overwinter. Did it flower last year ?
Chimera, thanks for responding so quickly. I am not sure if it flowered as I only bought this place last October and by then there were no leaves on it. It does have what look to be dried buds and those long flower parts that are left over after the flowers on an azalea are gone. I think the sun and water conditions were not the same for both plants. The evergreen that seems to flourish is planted where it gets a good dose of morning sun and all the water it can drink when it rains. The one in the pic is more sheltered by the house and although it gets morning sun because of it's height, it does not get as much as the evergreen azalea and it only gets rained on depending on wind factor. I began watering it in the spring when I noticed that it was lagging behind. That's when I started seeing some leaf growth.
Thanks so much - you have ended my never-ending search for the names of these plants. Now I can finally learn how to care for them! Thanks a lot:) I am so happy:0
pl, maybe it didn't get enough sun and water to set flower buds then last year, they like moist well drained soil and take sun well. Believe the flower buds are set in July/August and they will be larger than the foliage buds. Looks healthy enough.
Thanks for the support. I hope it survives:) I made the soil a bit more acidic, so maybe it will thrive.
