Hello, I have some images I took in Hawaii (on Kauai) last summer, and have been putting this to the side for some time. While walking in the town of Hanalei, I came across these lovely colorful plants used around a large fountain. I never found any identifying markers around the fountain, (which is always a shame for those like me who are ignorant). I particularly loved the manner in which both of these plants catch rain in the center. Notice that the first of these plants is speckled red and yellow, has rounded, glossy, flat leaves in a low lying, radiating pattern. It has collected rain water in the center, where a sprout of tiny little leaves has grown. The second plant is similar, except the leaves are red and much longer, with a lightly striped pattern, and a small, pronounced center "cup." ANY help in identifying these two vibrant plants would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ~ Joe joejustice@charter.net
Thank you! That gave me the start I needed; the mottled red and yellow appears to be a Neoregelia Bromeliad named after Michael Rothenberg, the poet. The deeper red one appears to be a Neoreglia Ying - I wish I had more pictures of this one, it's beautiful!
