help identify this plant?

    It is everywhere! The flowering part is white/brown, with a purplish hue. I'm in south central WI. Thanks much!

    I can see why you think the flowers are white/brown with purple, but they are assuredly golden yellow, for this is one of the Solidago spp., or goldenrods. It just happens to be going to seed right now, and probably the beautiful yellow was still evident a week ago..
