Can you help me identify this flower? I live in North Carolina, but have seen it in Canada, usually planted beside mailboxes. I assume it's a cultivated variety, but it could also be a wildflower. I'd love to plant it in my garden, if only I could figure out what it is!

    Maybe Angelonia angustifolia?

YES! Thanks so much, Eric! You've solved my months-long mystery. As soon as they come into season, I'll buy a number of these for my garden.

In the meantime, while NC is in the dead of winter ... here's another hardy flower that has survived along the highways, while all others have long since frozen.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks again ...

Margarita (ironically, my name means 'flower' in Spanish)

Yes the second one looks like nemesia. Margarita your name more specifically means daisy in Spanish, which we use as a name in English too.
