I have a plant that was given to me about 5 yrs. ago. I have almost lost it 4 times. It is on the mends agian . I repotted it. No one has been able to tell me was it is except they think it is from the African Violet family. Hates the sun. Water sparingly. I have never seen it flower. Leaves are not fuzzy and have a purple underside

Yeah, I'd guess Plectranthus ciliatus. It's in the Lamiaceae (mint family).

Should it have a minty smell to if you rub the leave? I have not done that. I am not sure you are right and I am not sure your wrong. When I looked up the description the plant it does not exactly match. This plant would never make it outside too fragile I think.

No. Most Plectranthus don't have much of a smell at all; a few smell like oregano (P. amboinicus), Vicks VapoRub (P. tomentosa, P. purpuratus), or other things. By "in the mint family" I don't mean "is a mint;" I mean it's related to mint. (Also in the Lamiaceae: sage, catnip, oregano, lavender, Swedish ivy, coleus)

I'm curious about why you think it hates sun and why you think it's delicate.

saltcedar: That is not my plant. Too bight of a green and no purple

mrsubjunctive: If I put in the sun it will wilt and die. That was one of the reasons I almost lost it. It thrives best on indirect sunlight. I guess the reason I say it it delicate is because I have had so much trouble with it. Since I repotted it it is doing great. Before repotting it had maybe 5 leaves. I agree the mint family is probalby right
