- The mushroom is growing on a very damp stump. - The spores are rusty brown or brown. - The temperature has been around 5c - 7c with lots or rain. (Nov 13 pics taken) - We are in a temperate rain forest area and they occur yearly on that stump only. - They are yellow on the inside and contained lots of water.
I'm sorry to ask..... Did you get any photos of the gills or the spore print by chance? Also, did you happen to see if there was any kind of residual ring on the stem...or just a discolored area that was different from the rest of the stem? I'm thinking a type of Pholiota but not sure here.
There are the pictures of the 24 hour spore prints and gills. Also the stem has no ring, only some brown gunk that looks like a ring then wipes off easily. Thanks for your help!
I seriously now wonder if these are maybe Galerina autumnalus? Deadly Gallerina........I've seen them quite large before and the caps sometimes variate depending on weather...the rings are not always visible either. Other look alike for this species is Galerina marginata. DEADLY...please note here.... Do you remember the texture of the caps? Were they tacky, sticky, just 'damp'....dry unless wet..lol.........or other?
