Anyone know what kind of plant this is? It was really small when I moved in, but recently started to grow like crazy. The tall center shoot is completely new... just appeared in the last couple weeks. Looks like it's trying to bud/bloom or something. What's the best way to care for it? Any trouble relocating this kind of plant? It's too close to the front door for how big it's getting. Thanks, Ken
Looks like a very happy Yucca about to bloom. Lucky you. Probably best to relocate it in hot weather to avoid rot. HTH Chris
I don't know if I would wait for hotter weather, if your worried about rot, you can use a fungicide on the root. If your going to move it do it after it blooms, the middle of the summer will be too hot. Really don't think this is a good time of year period.
Yucca flaccida?, but transplanting while in bloom, and warm weather ahead, spells fatal attraction to the compost heap! Unless you can dig up the root with minimal disturbance....good luck!
Thanks all for the info... after reading further mine appears to be a Yucca aloifolia (Spanish bayonet). It has the painfully sharp pointed leaves. Another reason I desire to relocate it away from the front door. I'll wait to move it after it blooms. If summer is too hot to move it, would it be better to move in during the fall or spring? BTW: I'm in the Pacific Northwest / Seattle area. It really doesn't get very hot or dry here. Thanks again, Ken
With almost any other plant I'd agree with the others that Summer could be a fatal time to move it. However Aloes, Yucca, Agave and Cactus should be moved when in active growth so they can heal any cuts before cold wet weather sets in. In Texas (and I assume PNW) it's dry enough not to get rot from rainfall. HTH Chris
