Thanks, I thought spider plants leaves would be a little tougher than this one's. Its friable, soft and easily breaks off. I might have the song of India plant (Dracaena reflexa) in mind, I guess. Again, thanks.
Yes, I'm not 100% sure it looks exactly like a spider plant myself. Does the neighbor have a bigger one with the characteristic long stems bearing plantlets, and that is how you got yours? Otherwise if there are retailers within reasonable driving distance that present fairly substantial assortments of house plants you might visit these to see if they happen to have the same kind in stock. Also if there is a public display of tropical plants in your area - the Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver for instance - you might happen to encounter your plant there.
Also try a web search for images of Chlorophytum to see if yours might be a species or cultivar other than the most familiar and prevalent one.
