Help ID plant

    a friend of mine wanted to know what type of plant this is,he lives in NY and this plant was next to the post office.The berries are edible.I am just assuming since he has eaten them and is still kicking,LOL

    Amelanchier sp. Our local species in BC is A. alnifolia. I believe there are several "back East". Serviceberries are good to eat - the birds think so too & they get up earlier than us - we never get any.
